Ceremużyńska

Graduated in medieval music performance from the Sorbonne in Paris, under the guidance of Benjamin Bagby and Katarina Livljanic. She also obtained a degree in musicology at the University of Warsaw. She honed her vocal technique under the direction of Mercedes Hernández, and in master classes at the Academia de Música Antigua in Salamanca, taught by Richard Levitt and David Mason. The artist began her career as a soloist with the Medieval Music Group Pressus. In 2002 she won the Eugenia and Julian Kulski Award at the Early Music Festival at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. In 2003 she founded the medieval music ensemble Alienor, which specialized in performing the music of troubadours and trouvères. In 2004 she received a grant to travel to Centro Ramón Piñeiro in Santiago de Compostela, where she worked on a transcription and recording of love songs by the Portuguese king Denis I. The songs come from the newly discovered Pergaminho Sharrer, dated around 1300. This work led to the release of the album Cantigas de amor e de amigo in 2005. The album is a joint Polish-Spanish project, and it contains the world’s second recording of this repertoire. The artist took on the dual role of the soloist and artistic director for this project. Again acting as both soloist and artistic director, in 2006
she released E moiro-me d’amor, a musical reconstruction of the 13th and 14th century cantigas de amigo written by some of the most distinguished authors of the Galician school of troubadours. The album was released under the patronage of the Autonomous Government of Galicia and the Galician Radio (Radio Galega). In 2008 Paulina Ceremużyńska founded the medieval music ensemble Meendinho, with whom she frequently performed at the international festivals of Via Stellae and Espazos Sonoros. She also guest performs with other early music groups: she sang with ensemble Malandança, directed by Francisco Luengo, performing the Lai de Santa María by Ernoul le Vieux at the Festival Internacional de Musica Antigua in Gijón, and with the ensemble Ars Longa, with whom she presented her program on cantigas de amigo at the Festival La Huella de España. In 2013 the artist received a grant from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage in order to prepare the basis for a new artistic interpretation of selected psalms by Mikołaj Gomółka to the words of Jan Kochanowski.
