Krzysztof Szmyt
A graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Music where he studied under Maria Halfter. Prize winner of international competitions in Karlove Vary (3rd Prize), Vienna (2nd Prize and Special Award) and Salzburg (2nd Prize) as well as the Stanisław Wyspiański 1st Class Honours Award for the Young. He joined the Polish National Opera in 1982. His repertoire includes Chekalinsky in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades and Monsieur Triquet in his Eugene Onegin, a Friend of animals in Czyż’s Trouble in the Kennel, title role in Kunad’s The Master and Margerita, Damazy in Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor, Ferrando in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Tamino in his Magic Flute, Don Ottavio in his Don Giovanni and Belmonto in his Abduction from the Seraglio, the Madman in Musorgsky’s Boris Godunov, Hadank in Penderecki’s The Black Mask, Goro in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Lindoro in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri, the Innkeeper in R. Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, Edrisi in Szymanowski’s King Roger, Roderigo in Verdi’s Othello and Matteo Borsa in his Rigoletto and the Son in Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins. With the PNO he has performed in Austria, France, the Netherlands, Jugoslavia, Luxembourg, Germany, Russia and Switzerland. His repertoire also includes oratorios and cantatas (Bach, Handel and Mozart) and songs (from Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert to contemporary vocal lyricism). He records for Radio and CD.
