Piotr Paleczny
One of the most outstanding Polish contemporary pianists. A graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Music (a pupil of Prof. Jan Ekier) and prize-winner in five international piano competitions: Sofia 1968, Munich 1969, Warsaw 1970, Bordeaux 1972, Pleven 1971. Since his success in the 8th Chopin Piano Competition he has been giving concerts throughout the world. He has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony, the American Symphony, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Concertgebouw, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Gewandhaus, Yomiuri Nippon, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the RAI Orchestra, the Santa Cecilia or the Orchestra National de Mexico. He has played at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Teatro Real in Madrid, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. He has given master classes in Bordeaux, Amsterdam, Mexico City, Tokyo, Lugano and Warsaw. He has been a juror of international competitions in Warsaw, Paris, Santander, Tokyo, Hamamatsu, Prague and London. Since 1994 Piotr Paleczny has been artistic director of the Chopin Musical Festival in Duszniki Zdroj. He has recorded many albums and the yearly Musical America 88 named his interpretation of Paderewski’s Concerto with the Polish Radio and Television Symphonic Orchestra (issued by “Sound”) as the best phonographic recording of the work. His album with Szymanowski’s 4th Symphony released by EMI in the USA had very good reviews. He made recordings for Pony Canyon, Japan (both Chopin’s piano concerti and his complete ballads, impromptus, scherzos and fantasias). He recorded all Chopin’s ballads for BeArTon. Piotr Paleczny’s wide repertoire spans concertos of great Polish composers (Chopin, Paderewski, Szymanowski) to contemporary music, including Piano Concerto by Lustoslawski (issued by NAXOS in 1997).
