Piotr Nowacki
He studied solo singing at the Lodz Academy of Music and graduated in 1985. In 1984 he won first prize in the Moniuszko International Vocal Competition in Warsaw. He has also won prizes in singing competitions in Kudowa (Poland; 1st prize), Bytom (3rd prize), Krynica (1st prize), Philadelphia (Luciano Pavarotti Competition) and qualified for the final of the Belvedere Vocal Competition in Vienna.
In 1987 in La Scala he sang the main part in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Tale of Tsar Saltan. In 1989 he sang Wurm in Luisa Miller by Verdi staged at the Philadelphia Opera (in the company of Luciano Pavarotti). He has performed many times in La Monnaie Royal Opera in Brussels, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and the Flemish Opera in Antwerp. In 1995 he participated in the production of the opera Puritans by Bellini in Teatro La Fenice in Venice. In June 1998 he sang Mefisto in Faust by Gounod in the Vienna Volksoper. He appears permanently at the National Opera in Warsaw (recent premiere of Mozart’s Don Giovanni under Jacek Kaspszyk). He also devotes much time to oratorio music, frequently performing Penderecki’s works (Polish Requiem: Granada, the Canary Islands, Sevilla Expo ’92, Krakow, Israel; The Passion According to St. Luke: Germany, Austria). In 1998 he sang in Mahler’s 8th Symphony in Winnipeg (Canada). He appears frequently at international music festivals (Edinburgh, Granada, Puerto Rico). He has played in the film versions of two operas by Rossini (La cambiale di matrimonio and L’Equivoco stravagante).
